D.C. is Small, Mighty and Serious about EV’s

If you’ve been keeping up with the Daisy Chronicles, then you already know that new state laws and incentives throughout the District of Columbia – Maryland – Virginia region are making electric vehicle (EV) adoptions totally worth the initial investment. While D.C. may not have statehood rights, it is definitely at the forefront of a greener future and an EV lifestyle without the stress of Range Anxiety.

To help you understand the perks of purchasing a new EV in my hometown, I’m sharing my personal list of D.C.’s most impactful laws and incentive programs for individuals and local property and/or business owners.

Alternative Fuel Vehicle Infrastructure (Tax) Credits Learn More Up to $1,000 available in D.C. tax credits for the installation of residential EV charging stations
$10,000 for non-residential stations designed for public use
Qualifying purchases will be reflected in a reduction of your D.C. tax liability and will rollover for up to two years.
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Conversion (Tax) Credits Learn More Up to $19,000 available in D.C. tax credits (which do not roll over) for converting traditional petrol-operating vehicles to alternative fuel vehicles You may be eligible for this credit if you or your business converts your vehicle to run on one of these fuels:
Electricity from a vehicle charging station 
85% Ethanol 
Natural gas 
Compressed natural gas 
Liquefied natural gas 
Liquefied petroleum gas 
Biodiesel (excluding kerosene) 
Hydrogen
Reduced Registration Fee for Alternative Fuel and Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Learn More Registration fees are reduced up to 68% for alternative fuels and fuel-efficient vehicles Savings on vehicle registration for new purchases of clean fuel and electric vehicles.
Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) Title Excise Tax Exemption Learn More Purchasers of  new and used EVs are eligible for excise tax exemptions Savings on excise taxes for the purchase of new and used alternative fuel vehicles
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Exemption from Driving Restrictions Learn More Alternative fuel vehicles driven by covered fleet operators are exempt from vehicle usage time-based restrictions, such as time- of-day and day-of-week limitations and commercial vehicle bans. You will receive special parking privileges throughout D.C., including in commercial business districts and restricted neighborhood parking zones.
